Tasting Notes

Patagonia is a great place for Merlot, since the climate is cool. This wine is made without oak, and is from vines that were planted in 1947, making this remarkable value for money. Very pure on the nose, with fresh plums and a hint of leathery spice. The Rio Negro is the best place in Argentina for Merlot. Lovely purity of fruit on the finish.

Rio Negro, Patagonia

An old region, which is dominated by the production of first class apples, pears and cherries. This used to be a big wine producing region, with over 60 producers at its height in the 1960’s. Now it is a shadow of its former self, but continues to produce some of the best wines in Argentina. Pinot Noir is at its best here, with Bodega Chacra leading the way, and the amazing Hans Vinding Diers being the leading light of this beautiful region. The Rio Negro has an Old World charm, as do its wines. New producers are buying up old abandoned vines and bringing back this region as a beacon for high quality, elegant and sometimes very expensive wines.
