El Porvenir de Cafayate ‘Probeta’ Malbec

£23.25 / per bottle

Tasting Notes

Very few places in the world can expect to get levels of ripeness and sweetness in the tannin that this unique region achieves. Paprika, a hint of carrot, slightly salty and rich on the nose, with soft and mouth filling juicy black fruits. Very full bodied and opulent in the mouth. Fantastic value from this beautiful boutique winery.

Cafayate, Salta

A four hour drive South from the colonial city of Salta, you will witness some of the most epic vistas of the Calchaqui valley. The town, a must – see visit if you are in Argentina, is the centre of wine-making in this beautiful province. With just 33 wineries in the region, it represents a small proportion of Argentina’s gigantic wine output, but remains important as being one of the true, terroir – specific wine regions of the world. The altitude ranges from 1700 to 1850m above sea level. Cafayate is the rightful home to Torrontes, Argentina’s own indigenous white grape varietal, but also makes world class Tannat and of course Malbec. Big, bold and intense wines, with a wild and sometimes rustic feel to them, Cafayate punches way above its weight when it comes to quality, and I must admit, I have a real soft spot for this ethereal and beautiful place.
