Amalalya ‘Dulce’ Sweet Torrontés

£16.50 / per bottle

Tasting Notes

A very light and fresh late harvest Torrontés. This wine is made from late harvest grapes from Santa Rosa. The fermentation stops prematurely because of the thickness and high sugar content of the must, so this only has around 10% alcohol! but very good acidity. Elderflower and lime marmalade on the nose, with lychee and a touch of yellow grapefruit citrus in the mouth. Great with cheese, chocolate and pears. Very versatile.

Cafayate, Salta

A four hour drive South from the colonial city of Salta, you will witness some of the most epic vistas of the Calchaqui valley. The town, a must – see visit if you are in Argentina, is the centre of wine-making in this beautiful province. With just 33 wineries in the region, it represents a small proportion of Argentina’s gigantic wine output, but remains important as being one of the true, terroir – specific wine regions of the world. The altitude ranges from 1700 to 1850m above sea level. Cafayate is the rightful home to Torrontes, Argentina’s own indigenous white grape varietal, but also makes world class Tannat and of course Malbec. Big, bold and intense wines, with a wild and sometimes rustic feel to them, Cafayate punches way above its weight when it comes to quality, and I must admit, I have a real soft spot for this ethereal and beautiful place.
