This vineyard, from 1969, was planted by Chandon to make sparkling wine. Sold to the Canale Family, this is an addition to the ‘old vine’ series that Gaucho has exclusively. Lovely and soft in the mouth, with red currant and quince on the nose. Clear and defined fruit, with a rich and soft texture. This is their first vintage, and has been aged for a short time in oak.
An old region, which is dominated by the production of first class apples, pears and cherries. This used to be a big wine producing region, with over 60 producers at its height in the 1960’s. Now it is a shadow of its former self, but continues to produce some of the best wines in Argentina. Pinot Noir is at its best here, with Bodega Chacra leading the way, and the amazing Hans Vinding Diers being the leading light of this beautiful region. The Rio Negro has an Old World charm, as do its wines. New producers are buying up old abandoned vines and bringing back this region as a beacon for high quality, elegant and sometimes very expensive wines.
Passion fruit and a little weight on the palate, with a touch of asparagus and citrus notes. Made with no oak, this is classic expression of Sauvignon Blanc.
