Tasting Notes

La Rioja is the origin of Torrontés, being indigenous to this region. This is less flowery than the Salta Torrontés, with lilies and lemon sherbet flavours. Very clean in the mouth, with lovely weight and a silky texture. A great introduction to this grape variety. Brilliant with ceviche.

Famatina valley, La Rioja

Do not be confused by the name, it is of course a completely different region to its Spanish namesake. Famatina is situated high in the province of La Rioja, North of San Juan in the Andes mountains. More than 140 wineries work together under the co-operative name of ‘La Riojana’, a company who specialises in making high quality bulk wine to the world, and one of Argentina’s most successful winery names on the international scene. Torrontes is said to have originated from this province, so much of the Torrontes sold around the world comes from here. Bonarda, Syrah and Malbec are also really good here.
