Tasting Notes

This was one of the first wines that we commissioned from a winery in Argentina. Michel Torino make some of the best Torrontés in Salta. This is very typical of the wines you find here. Very floral and aromatic, with a peachy texture and some lychee notes, with weight and a long finish.

Cafayate, Salta

A four hour drive South from the colonial city of Salta, you will witness some of the most epic vistas of the Calchaqui valley. The town, a must – see visit if you are in Argentina, is the centre of wine-making in this beautiful province. With just 33 wineries in the region, it represents a small proportion of Argentina’s gigantic wine output, but remains important as being one of the true, terroir – specific wine regions of the world. The altitude ranges from 1700 to 1850m above sea level. Cafayate is the rightful home to Torrontes, Argentina’s own indigenous white grape varietal, but also makes world class Tannat and of course Malbec. Big, bold and intense wines, with a wild and sometimes rustic feel to them, Cafayate punches way above its weight when it comes to quality, and I must admit, I have a real soft spot for this ethereal and beautiful place.
