Susana Balbo ‘Mandala’ ‘White Chalk Blend’

£23.00 / per bottle

Tasting Notes

Made with Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Torrontés from soils which contain high levels of calcium carbonates. This gives the blend real minerality and finesse. An unusual blend that is lean and very fresh on the nose. Lots of flowers and wet stone on the nose, with the Torrontés shining through. Very aromatic, but steely. Only Torrontés was aged in oak for few months

Year Made

Paraje Altamira, San Carlos, Uco Valley, Mendoza

Now with its own newly formed appellation, Paraje Altamira is unique, and is now responsible for being the heart of some of Argentina’s great wines. Calcerous soils are its trademark, with many owners residing over small plots of land on this Alluvial cone. Great for Chardonnay and of course Malbec, with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon producing great results too. Some vines here also escaped the vine pull of the 1980’s, and are amongst Mendoza’s most jealously guarded vineyards, being over 100 years old. Many of the wines that have raised the bar for Argentina have originated here, Achaval Ferrer with Finca Altamira, Catena with Nicassia, Mendel with Finca Remota and more recently, Sebastian Zuccardi completed his new winery, Piedra Infinita, to date the only winery in Altamira. Many of the young guns in Mendoza are greedily buying fruit from here to make their Icon wines. Stellar quality.
